What would the 10 Commandments be like if an Atheist wrote them?...
1.) Do not hurt or kill any living person unless that person is threatening your life or limb as well.
2.) Do not hurt or kill any living animal unless presented with a survival scenario, such as hunting for food.
3.) Do not criticize or restrict the actions of anyone for characteristics they cannot change, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, physical limitation or mental deficiency.
4.) Question anything you are told that is either suspicious, improbable or considered of extreme importance. If someone tells you something because they consider it true and important, then they probably have good reason and evidence to support that position. If not, then they shouldn't be telling you.
5.) Never deny or limit your intellectual potential. You have only one life and only one mind. Use them both to their fullest potential.
6.) When you have much, be considerate of those who have little. Where you work hard for what you have, they suffer long for what they have not. Spreading wealth and resources will spread happiness.
7.) Never harm a child in any way, physical or mental. Crimes against our children create ripples throughout future generations that cannot be stopped.
8.) Understand that there is no substitute for truth. Where it can be found, find it. Where it cannot be found yet, do not assume it.
9.) Understand the insignificance of both yourself and your species in light of the vast universe. This is not a disadvantage to mourn, this is a challenge to overcome.
10.) Never impede human technological advancement through science without evidence of obvious human rights violations. The only reason you are here and able to question scientific advancement is because of past advancements.

"Faith is not a good reason to believe in any one thing. It's a bad reason to believe in everything. Faith is not synonymous with any one idea; it is synonymous with any strongly held idea, true or not. But one thing faith is not synonymous with is a logically justified idea."

listen to george carlin's ten commandments. he shortents them to two.
1. always be faithful and honest to the provider of thy nookie.
2. try REALLY hard not to kill anybody
Yeah, I've seen George's 10 Commandments and I liked them a lot. But I promised to make 10, so I had to lengthen them out and come up with specifics.
George actually had a third commandment to go along with it as well, "Thou shalt always keep thy religion to thyself."
But in light of that, I like the list proposed here. It's a pretty good set of rules, which if followed, would lead to a better world and a far less embarrassing species. The probability of it ever happening is pretty null, but it's a good set nonetheless.
